Surrey
Hill Whippets

part 1
Here
you will find pictures of the Whippets we have owned, bred, or co-bred which
have gone on to be used in breeding programs and might reasonably be expected
to be found in some pedigrees of dogs who are currently in competition or in
the hands of fellow breeders. Most of these dogs have sadly passed on, but a
few of the males are still standing at stud with their current owners, and we
have included a link to the appropriate website for those who are still in use.
It is our intention that this section of our website serve as a resource for
people who are doing pedigree research and want to know what some of those ancestors
in their pedigrees looked like. I welcome correspondence concerning these Whippets
of our past, and will be happy to share information about their virtues and
faults to the extent that I can. Not all of these photos are flattering of the
dogs or were taken at their mature peak, but I have tried to find an honest
photo of each. I lost many of my best albums in a storage building fire six
years ago, and so if you have a photo of any of these dogs which you feel is
better, or a photo of a dog bred or owned/co-owned by either Karen Bowers Lee
or Carolyn J. Bowers that you feel should appear somewhere on this site, then
please share it with me and I will be more than happy to add it. My ambition
is to eventually display at least one photo of every single Surrey Hill owned
or bred dog which ever produced a litter here, and most of our champions.
The Whippets who currently live with us can be found in the Current Dogs section
of the site, and these do include some who are now retired from all breeding
and competition, but who are important parts of our program and our family life.
Future hopefuls and current competitors bred by Surrey Hill which are active
right now can be found in the News section.
At the bottom of this section, there is a gallery of champions and other winners
that we feel represent our breeding program particularly well and were very
special to us, but who were never bred on from for a variety of reasons. We
invite you to look at them as they are closely related to a number of dogs which
were used, and therefore useful to study despite having no descendents of their
own.

When
I found out the beautiful "Sara" was going to bred to Godfrey,
I made sure I was the first one on the list. Even though I was within
a month of having a baby, I flew out to California to bring her home.
Selena has been everything I could have dreamed of, and more. Her devotion
to me is complete, and her work ethic is second to none. She achieved
every goal I set for her, and surprised a whole lot of people when she
turned out to not only be beautiful, but extraordinarily fast for an all
showbred pedigree. She was also an AWC Regional Specialty BOS and Award
of Merit winner, and was four times in the Top 10 of the AWC Triathalon.
Selena ruled for 12 years as the Queen Bee of my household. She was bred
by Lee and Deann Christianson, to whom I will forever be grateful for
letting Selena be my special girl. Sadly, I lost Selena suddenly in February
of 2005. Her obituary and a nice memorial page can be found at the Whippet
World Memory Garden: http://groups.msn.com/WWArchives/wwmgpage21.msnw There you can read some of the things that made her dear to me. |

(Ch.
Highlight Bold'N Spectacular x Savannah)
![]() |
Foundation
bitch for Camelot Whippets in Washington State. Martina won Best Puppy
at the 1988 AWC National, but a few months later decided that she hated
to show, and so despite being AKC pointed, she never did finish her bench
title in the USA. She did love to course, though, and did that quite well. |

the owership of Robert Koeppel, for two years running in the mid-1980's.
She was specialed by Joy Brewster, now a judge. Although she came back
to us after her specials career was over, she sadly proved infertile. |
"Mia"
Surrey
Hill Adagio Miami Heat

![]() |
A
beautiful Futurity class-winning Whippet who was the first cream I grew
out for showing, "Mia" was hit by a car and killed while down
in Florida for showing by her co-owner, to whom no blame attaches. Although
she died before finishing, I have to include her for her perfect Whippet
body, and because I still think of her as one of my best. We were extremely
sad to lose such a sweet and beautiful, exotic-looking bitch. |
